ANNUAL QUALITY ASSURANCE REPORT (AQAR) OF THE IQAC.
Name of the Institution: Tinsukia Commerce College, Year of report 2011-2012
College has its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) is run by the Chairman, Dr. P. S. Das, Principal and by its Co-ordinator, Mr. Ranjan Kalita, Assistant Professor of the college taking assistance from other faculty and IQAC members.
Part A:
The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year.
1. To organize National Seminar on 10th and 11th September, 2011.
2. To upgrade the medical facilities in the college.
3. To provide more games and sports facilities to the students.
4. To organize few lectures and awareness programs in the college.
5. To extend financial assistance to the NGO named SNEHALAYA, a centre of teaching and health service of the challenged persons of
    Tinsukia District as a part of extension activities.
6. To extend financial assistance to the students belonging to ST, SC, OBC (Non-creamy layer), minorities.
7. To extend financial assistance to the needy girls students through Antia Memorial Scholarship Scheme.
Part B:
1. Activities relating the goals and objectives of the institution:
In the rapidly changing scenario of higher education, the college has introduced need based diversified courses under ODL system at the UG level viz. BPP. B.A. B.COM, BBA, BCA, BMC, DHRM, CCA under the study centre of  KKHSOU (Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University), Assam.
By introducing IGNOU convergence programs as a Partner Institution, the college has introduced certain additional courses towards attaining professional and skill based knowledge among different participants.
The existing course have been supplemented with a compulsory computer course in a parallel mode to enhance the job potential for those who cannot go for PG of any other high cost effective courses.
Research activity has been strengthened and the faculty members have been encouraged to publish more research papers, books etc and take up UGC sponsored minor research projects.
2. New academic programs initiated (UG and PG)
The institution has initiated the following Academic program under IGNOU Convergence Course.
a. Master of Commerce.
b. Certificate in Environmental Studies.
The institution has initiated the following Academic program under Dibrugarh University.
a. Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Semester System.
3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:
The University prepares the curricular design for the under graduates and Assam Higher Secondary education Council prepares for the 10+2 standard.

4. Inter-disciplinary programs started: Nil.

5. Exam reforms implemented: Nil

6. Candidates qualified: NET/ SLET/ GATE etc. : Nil

7. Imitative towards faculty development programs: On 19th September 2011, Dr. T.G.K. Murthy, ex-director ISRO and currently serving as Scientific Adviser to Dept of Sc. and Tech. of Govt. of India was invited by Tinsukia Commerce College to deliver a lecture on “Swami Vivekananda as an Intuitive Scientist”. Dr. Murthy received six times the NRDC, Govt. of India awards, WISTEX award, AFCCI, FICCI, IETE gold medal award, ASI award and Outstanding achievement award of ISRO. He has written book titled SWAMI VIVEKANANDA- AN INTUITIVE SCIENTIST.
All the faculty members are being encouraged to participate in different state and national level seminars and workshops held and organized at different colleges in the state.
90 % of the teachers have participated in National and International Seminars held at different places of the country and total 12 no. of papers were presented.
8. Total Number of Seminars/workshops conducted: One National Seminar on Microeconomic Enterprise Building Mechanism to empowerment of women in Indian scenario held on 10th & 11th September, 2011where 43 nos. of scholarly papers were presented and resource persons from IIT, Guwahati, Kalyani University, Dibrugarh University came and successfully conducted the technical sessions. The Vice Chancellor (retd.) Prof. Swapon Kr. Pramanik delivered the key note address.The seminar was organized jointly by IQAC & Women Cell, Tinsukia Commerce College in collaboration with ‘Snehalaya’ (a teaching and training centre for the disabled children).   

9. Research Projects:
A. Dr. B. K. Sen, Principal, Tinsukia Commerce College, Tinsukia, Assam, has submitted the completed MRP within his stipulated time.
B. Dr. P.S. Das, Vice - Principal, Tinsukia Commerce College, Tinsukia, Assam, has submitted the completed MRP within his stipulated time.

12. Research grants received from various agencies: No research grant has been received during this period but proposals (two nos.) have been submitted to the UGC, NERO.

13. Details of Research scholars: Mrs. Dimpi Chakraborty, Asstt. Professor, Dept. of Economics, submitted Ph.D. thesis entitled: “Performance of Self Help Group and their relationship with economic empowerment of women- A Case study of Dibrugarh  and Sibsagar Districts of Assam” on 18th October , 2011 to Dibrugarh University.

18. Community Service: No new community service launched.

19. Teachers and officers newly recruited: One Asstt. Professor in Economics has been recruited in the sanctioned post.

23. Courses in which students assessment of teachers is introduced and the action take on students feedback: Students assessment of teachers 
      has been introduced in B.COM and in B.A. programme.

24. Unit cost of education: 01.04.2012 to 31.03.2013 Rs.1,12,98,315/694 = Rs.16,279.99

25. Computerization of administration and the process of admission and examination, result, issue of certificates: Partially done and planning for
      office automation.

26.  Increase in the infrastructural facilities: (i) The college entrance graveled road has been transformed into a pitch road.
(ii) C.C. Cameras ( 16 Nos. ) have been installed inside the college campus and in the class rooms .
(iii) A new building measuring 3150 sq.ft. has been constructed inside the campus. Library building is under extension work
(iv) For the students and teachers 2 sets of multigym have been set up. One table tennis board and many other sports goods have been purchased for the 
      use of the students.
(v) New pure drinking water system with cooler has been added with the existing system.
(vi) Inside the campus street light post with CFL flood lights have been added in the campus beatification.
(vii) A well furnished computer centre with AC and 20 set of computers have been added in the infrastructure. 
(viii) Football & Cricket ground is under renovation.

27. Technology up gradation: Though not fully utilized yet a humble attempt to develop the teaching technology, 3 no of smart boards have been added
      in the system.

28. Computer and internet access and training to teachers and students: Students are always encouraged and allowed to use the college computers
      and internet in the academic related matters.

29. Financial aid to students: (i) Total 34 no of students of the different classes were financially helped. Rs. 21,500/- was disbursed. A total of 24 no of
      students of H.S. level was paid Rs. 500/- each and 19 no of students of UG level were paid Rs. 1000/- each
(ii) Anita Memorial Scholarship amounting Rs. 8500/- was disbursed among 17 no of girls students of different classes.

30. Support from the Alumni Association and its activates: Alumni members planted a good number of valuable saplings inside the college campus.
      Few selected members helped the management at the time of selecting students for the merit cum means scholarship.

31. Support from the Parent-Teacher Association and its activities: Nil

32. Health Services: Health service is being extended as before.

33. Performance in sports activities: Annual college week was organized w.e.f. 23.01.2012 to 29.01.2012, where a total of 140 no of trophies and
      medals were awarded with certificates to the students for their achievements in different events.

34. Incentives to outstanding sportsman: Best participant of the year award was given to Miss. Nonita Kumari Yadav of H.S. - I, for lifting 8 prizes in
      the college week 2011 -2012. Best Runner award of the year was given to   Sri Sunil Thakur of H.S. - II

35. Students’ achievements and awards: (i) Total enrolment in NCC during 2011 - 2012 was 55 out of which 45 nos. were boys and 10 nos. were
      girls. A total of 12 no. of camps were attended by the cadets during the year. The details of the camps are as below:

A.
i.  CATC (Combined Annual Training Camp) - 6 nos. held under the unit.
ii. BLC (Basic Leadership Camp) - 1 no held at Maharashtra
iii. NIC (National Integration Camp) - 1 no held at Silchar, Assam
iv. AAC (Army Attachment Camp) - 1 no held at Dibrugarh, Assam
v. PRD-I ( Pre Republic Day) - 1 no held at Guwahati, Assam
vi. TSC-I (Thal Sainik Camp) - 1 no held at Dergaon, Jorhat, Assam
vii. TSC - II (Thal Sainik Camp) - 1 no held at Assam Police Training Centre, Jorhat, Assam

B.The Cadets participated in the above camps were credited in different ways as below:

Two Cadets were awarded Best Drill Award. For solo dance two cadets, for solo song one cadet & for Best Firing award to one cadet were awarded Trophies. One cadet was awarded gold medal in Table Drill. Another one cadet was awarded gold medal in Guard of Honour.
In the camps, in different performances the cadets were  able to achieve the following Ranks.

iii.1 Cadet: CQM (Company Quarter Master)
iv.6 Cadets:SGT (Sergeant)

C. The nine (09) Cadets were awarded ‘B’ Certificates. Out of which one (01) Cadet was awarded ‘A’ Grade, two (02) Cadets were awarded ‘B’ Grade, and six (06) Cadets were awarded ‘C’ Grade. Five (05) Cadets were awarded ‘C’ Certificates, out of which four (04) Cadets were awarded ‘B’ Grade, and one (01) Cadet was awarded ‘C’ Grade.
(ii) On 4.11.2011 three students of Tinsukia Commerce College participated in the paper presentation competition- Mind power in the IT Meet Anazori , Dibrugarh University. One of them secured 3rd position. The team was guided by the Principal and Vice Principal of the college and supervised by one of its faculty members.

36. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling Cell: 1. Three teams with a total of 80 students of Tinsukia Commerce College were taken to attend the Career Counselling programme, at Knowledge Fair 2012, Tinsukia on 18th, 19th and 20th January 2012. The team was guided by faculty members and a sum of Rs. 6000.00 was spent on conveyance.

2. The college conducted a career counseling session on 9th February 2012, where Mr. Sayan Chakraborty was invited as the resource person.

3. The first lecture programme was conducted by the Academic Counseling Committee, Tinsukia Commerce College on 24th March 2012. Mr. Joynal
   Abedin, a wildlife conservation activist, delivered lecture on “Wildlife conservation and tourism.”
4. On 31st March 2012, the Academic Counseling Committee conducted its 2nd interaction programme. A power point and video presentation was made
    by Miss Padmaja Tamuli, faculty Tinsukia Commerce College, on the topic ‘Self Motivation ’.   
 
37. Placement service provided to students: Nil

38. Development program for the non teaching stuff: On 20.08.2011 proficiency award was given to 2 faculty (contractual) members, 1 library staff
      and 1 office staff with cash award of Rs. 2000.00 each along with proficiency certificates.

39. Best practices of the institution: 1. Sri Harakanta Changmai, a resident of Borhat, District Sibsagar, received Rs. 2000.00 on 19.07.2011 from the     
      students and faculty members of Tinsukia Commerce College for the treatment of his eyes.

2. On 20.08.2011 proficiency award was given to 2 faculty (contractual) members, 1 library staff and 1 office staff with cash award of Rs. 2000.00 each
    along with proficiency certificates.

3. On 16th February 2012, Tinsukia Commerce College in collaboration with SPICMACAY, Dibrugarh Chapter, organized an Indian Classical Music
    recital and internationally renowned vocalist Kalapini Komkali was invited. She was assisted by expert hands Mr. Sushanta Chowdhury in Harmonium 
    and  Mr. Sanjay Despande in Tabla.

4. An Academic Counselling Committee was formed on 14th March 2012 with six faculty members and a co-ordinator. The committee was directed to
    conduct interaction sessions on each Saturday thereafter, under the guidance of Principal and Vice-Principal Tinsukia Commerce College.

5. A felicitation programme was held on 26th March 2012 in the honour of Mr. S.N. Nath for his grand success in achieving a better job facility in RGIIM,
    Shillong.

6. On 31st March 2012, the Academic Counselling Committee conducted its 2nd interaction programme. A power point and video presentation was made
    by Miss Padmaja Tamuli, faculty Tinsukia Commerce College, on the topic ‘Self Motivation ’.

7. 100% of the teachers attended National Seminars and workshop held at different institutions.

8. 60% of the faculty members presented papers in National Seminars.

9. 80% office personals are computer literate.

10. The college prepares Academic Calendar at the beginning of the Academic year.

11. There is total absence of ragging of fresher.

12. The institution encourages team work and decision making through the representative committees.

13. A number of functions like Foundation Day, Annual Sports Week, Teachers Day, etc. are held in the college

14. Proper attention is given to maintain discipline among the co-education stake holders.  
40. Linkage developed with National/International, Academic/Research bodies: (i) Dr. B. K. Sen has acquired the position of Research Supervisor of the dept. of Commerce, Dibrugarh University and a total of 4 scholars have been doing Ph.D. under his guidance. (ii) Dr. P. S. Das, Vice-Principal has acquired the life membership of Institute of Social Research and Applied Anthropology, Bidisa, Kharagpur, W.B. (ii) Dr. P. S. Das, Vice-Principal has been selected as one of the editors of the “Jharkhand Research Journal”
